Founded in 1907, First Baptist Church is the 2nd oldest church in Bandon. More than just a church, we are a family and a community of faith. We believe that all Christians are called by Christ, not just to worship and fellowship, but to teach His truth to the world (Matt. 28:16-20). We have a rich legacy of ministering to the spiritual and physical needs of our community, and in the American Baptist tradition, we support missions all over the world! We affirm that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6), and that we are saved from our sins by His grace alone through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). (Learn More About FBC's History)
We're not just a sleepy little church up on the hill - First Baptist Church is out there ministering to our friends and neighbors in the community, too! From food baskets to blood drives to Vacation Bible School, our church family is so much more than just Sunday worship. We are an autonomous, self-governing church affiliated with the American Baptist Churches - USA and the Bandon Ministerial Association. We are:
A Loving Church * A Biblical Church * An Independent Church * A Spirit-led Church * A Teaching Church * A Service & Mission-oriented Church
We are a redeemed people who follow the Lord, Jesus Christ. We follow the Great Commandments: We love God, and we love our neighbors (Matt. 22:36-40). We are tolerant and accepting, recognizing that we ALL need Jesus Christ! We worship, fellowship, and study together as a church and in small groups, and we support missions locally and internationally. We believe that the Bible is the sole authority on matters of faith and living, and that every believer has the Holy Spirit to help them grow in their understanding of God's Word. It took Pastor Greg a long time to seek and find Jesus Christ. Having suffered with suicidal depression and the crippling effects of sin for most of his young adult life, Greg finally began a journey of healing that included counseling and finding the Gospel.
He went back to school in his 30s to pursue a career which he believed God was calling him to - counseling. With his Master's degree in Divinity, and later a Ph.D. in Counseling, Greg began a spiritual and psychological counseling practice in Southern Oregon.
However, God had other ideas, and Greg found himself providing pulpit supply to First Baptist Church - at first just here and there, but then every week. As he grew to know and love the congregation, Greg eventually felt the calling to become our church's full-time Senior Pastor.
Married to the love of his life, Amanda, Pastor Greg and his blended family of seven children live happily in Bandon, and Greg strives to serve his congregation, his community, and - most importantly - his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
